One household contains several projects
A partner’s immigration route, a child’s school place, medication continuity, accessibility, a pet import process, and a shipment can each have different evidence and timelines. Treating them as one ‘relocation package’ hides the critical path.
Create a lane for every person, pet, and shipment. Record passport or identity needs, consent, health or vaccination records, school or employer documents, translation, travel limits, accommodation requirements, and the person authorized to act.
Map handoffs and care continuity
List where responsibility moves between family, employer, adviser, airline, school, clinician, shipper, landlord, animal-transport provider, and government authority. Ask which party remains accountable when a subcontractor or connection fails.
For health, education, disability, or animal care, carry enough records to bridge the transition and identify a suitable local service before the current supply or support ends. Do not assume brand names, prescriptions, educational supports, or product availability transfer unchanged.
- Individual lane
- Shared dependency
- Named handoff
- Fallback care or accommodation
Protect consent and privacy
Agree who may receive and send a child’s, dependent adult’s, employee’s, or family member’s information. A convenient group chat is not automatically an appropriate place for passports, health records, school reports, or financial documents.
Keep alternatives for delayed paperwork, unsuitable housing, missed transport, quarantine or animal requirements, and a household member who cannot travel on the same date. The plan is stronger when separation is survivable.
Draw the household critical path
Use one horizontal lane for each moving person, animal, and shipment.
- 1Add required evidence and decisions to each lane.
- 2Connect shared dates, housing, and transport dependencies.
- 3Identify the slowest critical path and the person who owns it.
- 4Write the fallback if one lane moves by two weeks.
Output: A household transition map that can tolerate a partial delay.
