Accessibility is a chain
A destination can have a ramp and still be unreachable because the station exit has stairs, the pavement is broken, the pickup point is across traffic, the accessible toilet is locked, or the only lift is out of service. Ask for each handoff and identify the person or operator who controls it.
BTS and MRT publish facility and route information, but live availability can change. Reconfirm critical lifts, entrances, vehicles, seating, and assistance before an irreplaceable journey. Carry the exact station exit and destination entrance rather than only a line map.
Plan the exposure budget
Heat, humidity, rain, sunlight, air quality, crowds, noise, and long standing can compound. Build shaded or indoor pauses, drinking water, meals, medication timing as directed, toilets, seating, and a clear point at which the day becomes the low-exposure version.
Do not label the alternative a failure. A museum, massage from a reputable provider, long lunch, covered market, river view from shelter, or quiet neighborhood route may preserve the day better than forcing the headline attraction.
- Every access handoff
- Live facility check
- Exposure and rest budget
- Nearby lower-exposure version
Make support explicit
Travellers should agree how assistance is offered and accepted. Do not move a mobility aid, touch a person, change a medication plan, or override the traveller’s communication without consent. Give service providers the specific functional requirement instead of a vague label.
Keep extra time for boarding, security, toilets, equipment, and recovery. Record what worked and report dated access changes so the next traveller receives useful evidence rather than a generic badge.
Build the resilient day
Choose one actual day and map every handoff for the traveller with the highest access need.
- 1Trace vehicle, curb, entrance, lift, toilet, seating, and return.
- 2Identify the live checks required on the day.
- 3Add rest, water, food, and exposure stop points.
- 4Design a nearby lower-exposure version with equal dignity.
Output: A primary and alternative day that preserve access and choice.
