Choose the right kind of service
An optical shop, a vision-testing service, an eye clinic, and a hospital ophthalmology department do different work. A directory category is only a starting point. Ask who performs the examination, what their role is, and whether the location provides the specific service you need.
If you have symptoms, an injury, a sudden change, or a known eye condition, ask an appropriately qualified health professional where and how urgently to seek care. A retail product comparison cannot answer that question.
Make the appointment and quote explicit
Ask what tests are included, how long to allow, whether you need to bring current glasses or records, and when results will be available. For glasses or contact lenses, request an itemized product description rather than comparing a package label alone.
- Name and role of the person performing each assessment
- Tests, consultation, imaging, or fitting included
- Copy of prescription, results, and product specifications
- Frame, lens, coating, contact-lens, or laboratory details when relevant
- Total price, deposit, remake, warranty, and collection terms
- Follow-up route after you leave Thailand or move cities
Protect continuity of care
Keep copies of your prescription, measurements, test results, images, invoices, and exact product details. Ask how another provider can request records later and whether follow-up requires returning to the same branch.
Convenient language support and quick product delivery can matter, but they do not establish clinical suitability. This guide organizes comparison questions and does not diagnose a condition or recommend a product or treatment.

Common questions
- Is a free vision test the same as a medical eye examination?
- Do not assume so. Ask who performs it, which checks are included, and whether the service assesses eye health or is limited to an eyewear prescription or product fitting.
- Should I receive a copy of my prescription or results?
- Ask before the appointment what records you will receive, in what format, and whether there is a fee. Keeping records makes follow-up and comparison easier.
- Can reviews tell me which lenses or treatment I need?
- No. Reviews may describe service experience, but individual product and treatment decisions require an appropriate assessment by a qualified professional.
